Bloombase Joins OpenStack Community

SUNNYVALE, CALIFORNIA, February 18, 2013 - Bloombase, one of the leading transparent at-rest data security solution providers, today announced that it has joined OpenStack™, an open-source community dedicated to creating cloud software that has achieved strong industrial momentum.

As business critical applications and sensitive data continue to transition into the cloud, there is a greater need for both public and private clouds to become more secure and robust by reducing risk of security breaches while increasing system scalability and availability. As the emerging open standard for cloud infrastructure, OpenStack complements Bloombase’s transparent data at-rest security technologies to be implemented across public, private and hybrid cloud environments.

"One of the key challenges with enterprise core business applications on cloud adoption is the need to achieve data privacy and regulatory compliance," said Sean Xiang, Co-founder and CEO of Bloombase. "Customers often see data stored at on-premises data centers safe and secure. While this may not be rightfully true, when it comes to storing data out of the corporate perimeter on cloud, no one would deny data better be locked down and safeguarded. Bloombase StoreSafe data at-rest security virtual appliance (VA) fills the missing piece by securing OpenStack storage services by bump-in-the-wire, transparent, real-time data encryption that fits seamlessly in the enterprise cloud infrastructure, enabling customers to meet stringent data security requirements cost-effectively"

OpenStack offers 2 options for storage: Block and Object. OpenStack Block Storage allows block devices to be exposed and connected to compute instances for expanded storage, better performance and integration with enterprise storage platforms. Object Storage is ideal for cost effective, scale-out storage enabling fully distributed, API-accessible storage platform that can be integrated directly into applications or used for backup, archiving and data retention.

Bloombase has extended StoreSafe data at-rest security system with data encryption capability from traditional data center storage systems including SAN, NAS, CAS, tape libraries and VTLs to various next-generation cloud storage service endpoints. The news of Bloombase joining OpenStack comes on the heels of the Company's recent announcement of support for OpenStack storage protocols of its flagship product. Bloombase StoreSafe enables non-disruptive data privacy over and above what was previously achievable only with host-based, fabric-based or storage-based solutions. With Bloombase StoreSafe agentless data security solutions, even the most complex and throughput-demanding media data services will benefit from the privacy and integrity assurance capabilities for at-rest data security. Customers can also leverage OpenStack management tools to access, provision and automate resources of Bloombase data at-rest security virtual appliances running on cloud easily and efficiently.

Backed by more than 180 participating organizations including HP, IBM, Rackspace, Red Hat and Novell, OpenStack is a massively scalable, open source cloud operating system that is moving towards the goal of becoming the industry standard for public and private clouds. OpenStack's mission is to enable any organization to create and offer cloud computing services running on standard hardware and being technology neutral. Bloombase’s philosophy aligns perfectly with the OpenStack initiative, which is purpose designed and developed to allow enterprise customers to achieve secure computing with freedom and flexibility to leverage the full potential of cloud computing architecture.
