Professor X. Li
Professor Xi Li is a faculty member of Department of Computer Science, USTC. Professor Li leads the Computer Application Lab of the university. His research interests include computer application and hardware/software architecture. In his research career, he has worked on several projects, include Lightning location System, Workflow Management over WAN, Picture Archiving and Communication System, Commercial Management Information System, Protocol Consistancy Test, etc. Professor Li's latest research work includes various aspects of embedded system design, such as architecture description language, high level design methodology of SoC, high level power optimization, and OS model. He has published more than 60 technical papers over his 20 years of career. In 2003, he adapted Jonathan W. Valvano's "Embedded Microcomputer System" and published into Chinese local language.
Professor Li has been involved with various academic and society activities. He is the secretary general of Anhui Computer Federation. He is also a Senior Member of CCF, where he serves its OA Committee as member.
Professor Li obtained his degree of BS in Atmospheric Science in Chendu Meteorology Institute, whereas his MS and Ph.D, from University of Science and Technology of China.
Professor Y.T. Zhang
Professor Y.T. Zhang is a renowned scholar and pioneer in biosensor and biomedical device research and development. He serves as the Director of Joint Research Centre for Biomedical Engineering. At The Chinese University of Hong Kong, he has developed and teaches courses including biomedical modelling, medical instruments and sensors, and telemedicine techniques and applications. His research activities have focused on the development of bio-models and bio-signal processing techniques to improve the performance of medical devices and biosensors, particularly for telemedicine. His work has been published in several books, over 20 scholarly journals, and numerous international conference proceedings.
Professor Zhang is the General Conference Chair of the 27th Annual International Conference of IEEE-EMBS to be held in 2005. He serves currently as an Associate Editor of IEEE Transaction on Biomedical Engineering, an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, and an Editorial Board member for the Book Series of Biomedical Engineering, published by Wiley and IEEE Press. He was elected and served as an AdCom member of IEEE-EMBS in 1999 and the Vice-President of the IEEE-EMBS in 2000 and 2001. He was the Chairman of Biomedical Division of Hong Kong Institution of Engineers in 1996/97 and 2000/01. He served the Technical Program Chair of the 20th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS).
Professor Zhang joined the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) since 1994. He was a Research Associate and Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Calgary between 1989 and 1994.
Professor Zhang received his Ph.D. from the University of New Brunswick, Canada, in 1990.
Dr Joseph M. Schmitt
Dr Joseph M. Schmitt is Chief Technical Officer of LightLab Imaging focussed on developing Optical Coherence Tomography. Before joining LightLab, he was a Staff Scientist in Mallinckrodt Corporation playing a chief role in growth strategy development and evaluating technologies for potential acquisition.
Prior to his time at Mallinckrodt Corporation, Dr. Schmitt, as Associate Professor of Department of Electrical Engineering, co-founded and directed the university's Center for Medical Device Technology.
Dr. Schmitt was a Senior Staff Fellow in the Lasers and Modern Optics Group of the National Institute of Health during the years from 1988 to 1994, co-founding a laboratory dedicated to developing technologies for non-invasive medical diagnosis. Dr. Schmitt was a consultant to organizations including Project Hope and the World Health Organization.
Dr. Schmitt is an author of over 40 articles, 6 book chapters and holder of 4 patents in the field of biophotonics.
Dr. Schmitt received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, Stanford, California and his B.S. degree in Biomedical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University, in Cleveland, Ohio.
Dr Alan Miller
Dr Miller is a distinguished engineer who has worked extensively on large industrial and commercial projects spanning over 36 countries to date. Dr Miller advises a number of large corporations including IT governance, risks management, etc.
Dr Miller is Senior Member of IEEE as well as Senior members of the Society of Manufacturing Engineer and other professional bodies. Dr Miller is an advisor for Bloombase Technologies and has worked with their senior management on a number of large scale projects.
Dr Miller holds a MSc Computer Software Engineering and a Doctorate in Engineering, and BEng(Hons) degrees in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
Ms Shirley Ha
Ms. Ha is the Executive Director of DIGITALHONGKONG.COM, a commerce service provider (CSP) engaged in providing outsourcing services for an integrated e-commerce solution. Through co-operation with third parties including ISPs, e-mall design houses, financial acquirers, delivery companies, and software companies specialising in customer profiling, it offers a "one-stop-shop" of conducting e-Commerce. It was listed on the Growth Enterprise Market ("GEM") of the HK Stock Exchange in April 2000. Prior to its listing, it was a wholly-owned subsidiary of Champion Technology Holdings Limited, a communication software development group listed on the Main Board of the Stock Exchange.
Mr Raul Benito Garcia
Mr Raul Benito Garcia is one of the key committers and founding members of Apache XML Security project. Mr Garcia is devoted to contributing to directing strategies, defining specifications and development of XML related projects including XML Security and WS Security of the Apache Software Foundation.
Mr Garcia is a senior software designer in Ericsson R&D in Madrid, Spain. In Ericsson, Mr Garcia is in charge of User Session & Identity Server (USIS) development. He is involved in Liberty Alliance Prototype design and development as well as development of Java API for Intelligent Network (JAIN) TCAP (SS7).
Prior to Ericsson, Mr Garcia served in Mirai Espana as Technical Manager supervising enterprise web infrastructure. Mr Garcia also served in Sema Group and Facultad de Informatica UPM in biometrics systems and various distributed computing infrastructure.
Mr Garcia advises Spitfire EAI on XML and web services related technologies.
